It's an honor to have worked on Gears 5 and among such talented people at The Coalition's cine team. My approach to storyboards was an animatic style, including camera moves and additional poses for acting purposes. As a disclaimer, there were a couple establishing shots before my part in this sequence that was boarded by Ralph Zondag before I took on the rest of it.
One of the challenges about the pipeline was gameplay and cinematics were being made at the same time, so the level staging was prone to change and not all the assets were final at the time. And to top it off, the orientation of the environment needed to change mid-sequence so I needed an anchor to help me know where everything was before and after. And that was the control panel.
It was fun as heck to fly around in engine and get the right shots and angles I needed from the greyboxed levels. The final polished cinematic looked amazing.
